Shoulder Replacement

Shoulder Replacement Surgery has become an increasingly common orthopedic procedure over the past 15 years.  Arthritis of the shoulder requiring Shoulder Replacement is uncommon, compared to Hip and Knee Replacement, due to the non-weight bearing nature of the shoulder, but is the surgical treatment for arthritis and chronic rotator cuff tears (Rotator Cuff Arthropathy) that fail non-surgical treatment.  Only 700 Orthopedic Surgeons in the US perform more than 10 Shoulder Replacements per year and the specialists at Burke & Bradley are part of that experienced group of surgeons.

Initial treatment of shoulder arthritis is often anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDS), cortisone injection and/or physical therapy.  Surgical treatment is recommended as the fix/cure for shoulder arthritis and Rotator Cuff Arthropathy that is no longer helped by other treatment options.

Shoulder replacement resurfaces the arthritic shoulder joint with metal and plastic components.  There are two types of Shoulder Replacement—standard Shoulder Replacement and Reverse Shoulder Replacement.  The surgeons at Burke & Bradley will perform a complete evaluation of your medical condition and recommend the best solution for your individual diagnosis.  Success rates are very high and complication rates are low.
